People tend to enjoy being with other people who enjoy the same things they do. So sometimes, finding a friend is a simple matter of looking around you to see who else is doing what you do and seems to enjoy it as much as you do.
Another approach is looking for people who seem to have a quality you admire. For example, a person might seem sweet and friendly. If you like those qualities, you might approach that person and tell him or her that he or she seems like a nice person and you were wondering what he or she enjoys doing in his or her spare time. You know, who they like to hang out with, where they like to go, what some of the things are that they like to do.
If you hit it off with some of these people, they can eventually become some of your best friends. Of course, there are no guarantees.
Sometimes people who like the same things you do, also like other things that might not have caught your eye. And if so, they can sometimes introduce you to new things that you end up liking too. In such cases, your friendship grows further because you appreciate that person more because he or she was instrumental in introducing to new fun things.
I think there are many ways to find friends, and you should do what makes you feel comfortable. But your question includes a special word. You want to know how to find REAL friends. That's a gamble. First you find a friend, then you learn, as time passes, whether or not the person is a real friend. It happens when the friendship is tested somehow. The results of the test help you understand the depth of the friendship.

Look around. Try starting to talk to people and getting to know people. In order to be friends, then be a friend. Good luck.
