I know there must be a term for that, but I can't find it.

OK....I have heard of almost everything here (NO MORE joke answers please), but I'm wanting a specific name for specifically helping the police, not just a job or other bargain/arrangement.

Some call it negotiations. Conditional release, or even plea bargain (if the offender is in courts)

unless the situation is of grave importance it would take an act of god to get you released from prison before your release date-especially if you are serving a long sentence for committing serious crimes.
