This is a very good question.
When you go to a used car lot, you allways notice how clean a cars windows are and how the windshield wipers allways clean the windows perfectly and never squeak. Bet you wonder what the garage does to make this happen with an older used vehicle?
Well her is your answer !
Go to your local drug store, purchase a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a roll of paper towels.
Clean the outside of your windshield first and also clean the wiper blades until you do not get any more black residue on the cleaning cloth which you saturated with the alcohol. Now go inside your car and repeat the process. Clean your entire windshield with the rubbing alcohol.
Windex and aother window cleaning chemicals almost allways leave a residue behind on glass, but, Alcohol does not leave any residue and it also does not leave an electrical static on the surface of glass, which is exactly why they tell you to clean the screen on your computer monitor with alcohol as well.
Now that you have completely cleaned your windshield inside and outside and also cleaned your wiper blades, try out your wiper blades, don't forget to squirt some washer fluid on the windshield. You will be surprised at how exceptionally well your windshield wipers will work at cleaning your windshield now. You will also see how clear your vvision is through your windshield also !
This is how the professional's do it!

I never buy glass cleaner. Just use straight ammonia, it won't streak and it's only $1 at the Dollar Store, and it can be used more places than window cleaner.

This happens to me too with the streaky windows in my car.
I buy a bottle of clear ammonia, and a large bottle (usually about 24-32 oz) of rubbing alcohol (70% or 90% is fine). Mix 2 tablespoons of the ammonia into the bottle of alcohol, then take a sprayer from another bottle, and attach it to the alcohol bottle. (Or, you can transfer the solution to another spray bottle). Just spray and wipe.
This alcohol + ammonia solution works very well to get windows and all glass very clean quickly. Use it only in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks and flames--only outdoors. This cleaning solution is also inexpensive.

The overall best cleaner is called Perfect Glass.Clean the outside first and wipe it all in the same direction. Then clean the inside and wipe going in a different direction.when you look at the glass you can now tell which side you may need to go over again. Also use a good quality paper towel

1. Make sure that window is cool to the touch
2. Make sure the car is in the shade
3. Use windex or any window cleaner
4. Use dry newspaper or paper towels to wipe with (just make sure that you are wiping the window with a dry sheet or page)
That should get prevent any streaks from beinging left behind.

Use newspaper instead of rags or towels...the ink will leave your hands in a mess, but your windows will be streakless....I also like to use an amonia based cleaner...
