Because most Romance languages (any language based loosely on Latin) do not end their words with a hard consonantal sound. The hard "k", "r" and "g" are the biggest offenders. The speakers add the vowel at the end simply because their mouths don't know how not to...

This is untrue and unfounded.
I'm Italian, I study English and I can assure you that I say English words as native English speakers, I don't add any vowel at the end of English words, I don't say such abomination as ''"What a mistake-a to make-a!" and I've never heard anyone in Italy speaking English like that.
My question is why English native speakers invent that we speak their language this way.
I bet you've never talked to a native Italian in all your life, it's so obvious,as an Italian I just find this nonsense stereotype invented by Americans very annoying, and as far as your ''best answer'' is concerned, first of all Italian language has some words that end in consonant, secondly I listen to a lot of English music every day, my brain works and my mouth knows how to properly pronounce your language, lastly, the majority of local languages in Italy are romance languages with most words that end in consonant, to the point that native speakers of these languages tend to speak Italian deleting the final vowels.
I finish my answer with a few video of Italians who speak English, tell me where they add an ''a'' at the end of English words, please:

Mama mia, papa pia, baby's gotta diarrhea!
Beats the heck out of me why they do it. It's just a cultural thing. Kinda like the Canadians and eh.
