For a small wedding probably a DJ. Unless you can get a really GOOD band that plays a variety of different music, at the same cost, which is doubtful. Unless money isn't the issue.
Just remember that the music at your reception will set the tone for the evening. It will dictate what kind of time your guests will have. Get them up on their feet dancing. Make sure you have the DJ play a really good variety of music.
Trust me, Grandma won't be interested in dancing to Snoop Dog. :)
But there is nothing that replaces GOOD LIVE music.

I have never been to wedding with a live band that was fun. DJs are much better. Most bands aren't very good and you don't necessarily get the band that you think you might. Some bands change members, like I change my socks, everyday. Get a DJ, at least you'll be able to recognize the songs.

I like live bands. But if there will be a lot of people who like to dance maybe the dj. Try to hear a live performance of the band before you hire them. There are some pretty bad ones out there.

It would depend on the location and time of day of the wedding. But since it's small/medium I'd go with a DJ.

Bands you just get the same type of music at least with a dj you get all kinds of styles.

It depends how many and how big if there's about 200 and there room for a stage I'd go with the band its more lively that's what I had at my wedding!!!!!!!1

DJ they can have more choice and don't have to have breaks all the time. Go for the DJ I did.
