It could be. However, nursing is one of the professional fields with loads of scholarships and financial aid available due to the nursing shortage. If anything, most community colleges offer a nursing program, and it can cut down on how much the tuition is and complete the program in two years. I will provide several sources where you can locate financial aid.

First, file for FAFSA.ed.gov because it will help you tap into both federal and college need based financial aid.

Second, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for your state's college grant program. 35 states has a website devoted to applying for state college financial aid and applications. If this method fails, search your state government's website for nursing scholarship or grant.

Third, I have listed some nursing scholarship organizations.

Fourth, check with your college's financial aid website and the nursing department's website because they often list available scholarships from outside organizations and companies.

Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. I recommend joining several of them. I recommend applying to as many as you qualify for since the more money you get in scholarships and grants, the less you will have in loans.

Good luck!

Usually it is enough to pay for school and then live off the rest (very modestly). It's really never enough to live off of, though. You need to set up a situation where you stay with parents, family members, roommates, etc. to where you can live cheaply. Or try a PT job where you work only 2 days a week or something.

School is expensive nowadays. If I were you, I would go to night or fast track nursing programs where you don't have to go 5 days per week, just 2 nights a week, then you can work too. There are tons of them Bryman College, etc.

Sometimes it is enough to live off of but don't forget you have to pay that loan off sometime even if you do not get a good paying job out of it. I did read somewhere though where you can get a 12000.00 forgiveness in the nursing field under certain circumstances. Look under Pheaa.

You can choose to borrow different amount but some students realize that they eventually have to give back ALL the $$ plus interest, so they try to borrow as little as possible. They find a way to get some work in, otherwise they have a massive bill with BIG payments once they graduate and start work.
