The immigration from Europe to the colonies started because of a desire for religious freedom from tyranny. The Church and the State were too intertwined and both had become too political.

In Ireland it was famine. People were dying by the thousands. In Russia it was WW1 and the Russian attitude toward Jews. In Italy it was also economics and the desire for a better life. These immigrants came to the USA after receiving special visas and most of them led simple but productive lives. They learned English and became citizens. Most of them loved America and what this new land stood for. My parents came here in 1918 and immediately learned English and then passed the test for citizenship. They loved America and worked very hard to make a good home in New York for all of us. We pitched in as well once we grew up. I never heard either my mother or father say anything bad about America. They would never even think of returning to their mother country.

<>There were many factors that led to European immigration to America. Look up Irish Famine, Hitler's Rise to Power, Religious Oppression, Iron Curtain, just to name a few.
