Hi Def is amazing but expensive. The prices will come down more. The good news is that it is mandated by Congress that all TV signals be sent by Hi Def by 2010. Originally, it was 2006 but it was pushed back because stations and networks were slow in developing it. The bad news is that it requires a Hi Def tv and a special converter box (subscription through your cable provider) and a higher monthly subscription fee for your cable service. I have it and love it. I truly see the difference when I switch back and forth between a Hi Def football game and a non-Hi Def football game. More and more channels will be switching to it but even those that don't, they should look better with your Hi Def tv than your non-Hi Def tv. Hope that helps.

H.D. is a rip off at this point in time. You sorta put the wagon before the horse. For one, you shouldn't have bought a plasma TV....12 months ago was way to soon. By the year 2009 all channels are going to be broadcasted in HD. In 2007 LCD HDTV's are going to drop drastically b/c of the surplus and lack of demand. But yes, H.D. is a rip off at this moment unless you have an XBOX360 or subscribe to HD channels.

I think the cost is very high for the TV sets, however once it becomes standard, the higher definition is a massive improvement in terms of display quality (duh).
The best part of it all is that console games will now (starting with Xbox 360) be in high definition, which means consoles will be able to match PCs in graphic quality. I would just wait until the sets cost less, I use my PC monitor for my xbox, and apart from the 19" size, its the same as buying a HDTV for £600.

Right now HD is a waste of space, Even though i just bought one,.
Most of the programs on the SKY channels are just upscaled SD, and bad ones at that.
But with the release of HD DVDs i think you will find that HD TV starts to pickup..
Once people start demanding the better programing it will really start to roll..

I've watched hd and it is good, but I'm not convinced it's worth the extra money. You should get a pretty good picture anyway if you're using digital, so I'd wait until it's a bit more widespread.

Like it has been said a thousand times "HD is the future". We live in the "now". HD will be great in the future, as for now I stick to my standard TV....

I don't think its a rip-off as I also have a HD TV, however it is going to take time for the technology to proliferate into the mainstream and become widly used.
