Do any of you think it's wrong that there is an option to vote for a straight(republican or democrat)ticket at the voting polls? I voted today and was surprised that most people don't even research who they are voting for and why, just for a specific party...

Also do you think that the voting poll should give out pamphlets to know about who is running and all the issues? I was disappointed that they only had a sample ballot taped on the wall outside the building and no other literature to really study.

I was not trying to say that everyone votes straight ticket I just meant that it is generally very appealing concept to know that its done quickly and rushes the entire process.

And FYI I did study about the candidates beforehand but thought that it seems logical that some people who are busy and want to review the issues quickly should have more info available to them. They could at least have the newspaper there outside for quick review.

no, it gets morons (those who can't conceive of anything but the 'party line') out of the booth that much quicker and out of harm's way...the 'election season' has been going on so long, that if you have the need to 'really study' AT THE POLLS to make an informed and intelligent vote, it's not likely you will make one anyway...just go in there, vote your straight ticket, and someone will be along to get you home, feed you dinner, even put your jammies on...or even better, stay home and watch tv...

It would be illegal for there to be any literature on the candidates at the polling site. It is every voters responsibility to research before they go to vote. That should start Long before election day. Every pamphlet has to be produced and any one who produces a pamphlet has a personal bias. Therefore you cannot rely on pamphlets but must research the issues and candidates yourself.

There is nothing at all wrong with giving people an option to vote straight party. Even if the ballot did not contain that option, many voters would just go through the ballot voting for all the members of one party, anyway. It saves time to give the straight-party option.

No, government should not be in the business of helping candidates campaign for office. Candidates should get their own info out to prospective voters. Voters should be studying who to vote for before they ever enter the polling place. If you are the kind of voter who needs to look at more information before you decide who to vote for, then you should be looking for that information -- in the newspapers -- before you walk into the polling place. .......................................................... For one thing, there probably isn't enough space in the polling place for all of the literature for all of the candidates running for all of the offices.

I'm going to vote a straight democratic ticket, because the republicans are owned by big multinational corporations and they have no alliance to Americans.. As far as I can tell, everything that they have done has been against the poor and middle classes... People may have jobs, but the cost of living has gone much higher.. With almost 10 trillion dollars of national deficit do you really want to leave them in power another two years?.. We are hated in the world, our ability to gather intelligence is gone (because of outing a CIA agent) and we've spent trillions of dollars with nothing to show for it... A vote for a republican is a vote for bush, and watch out because many of them will call themselves independent, but they will still vote against us and for multinational corporations... The money will keep flooding out of this country until republicans are out of power.

Regarding the sample ballot : You should have received it with your mail some weeks back.

You have no knowledge whether most people research or not. Asking a few people does not qualify for "most."
