Warning EXTRA serious answer I have tried my best to be the last answer so that those who know me don't faint::
The image that one person tries to portray over the internet is a one that he cannot portray in real life as the internet allows a certain degree of anonymity hence people may tend to think that over the internet nobody really cares how others may act or react toward a given situation.
This point made some people are also of the believe that one should portray his/her real image so that if they meet in real life they might not be shocked by whom they are meeting as they already have an image in their mind and would mostly go by the first impression which in this case happens to be over the internet where you cant look into the eyes of the person to know if he is telling the truth or not
