Before you get into all that, if your mail server is Yahoo free account , forget it! Yahoo will not allow exporting mail. You'll have to purchase Yahoo Plus account!
If you do this Yahoo Tech will set it all up for you with a utility tool.

Most of the time you will set-up a POP3 account, it just means that it will take all your emails from the server and transfer them to your computer (outlook) you will need the pop server name and the smtp server name. Pop server is to get the mail from the server and smtp is to send the mail. If you are using road runner (and many other ISP's) just check their website and it will more likely than not tell you what the server names are and even give you a walk through of how to set it all up.

What is your email service provider name. It is best to contact them for all the info you need. If you are talking about Yahoo mail, you have to pay for it in order to set it up with outlook and other email program.

you want the Yahoo mail plus to have POP get correct of entry to to Yahoo. in case you want a software like Outlook which will connect with prevalent Yahoo mail, attempt Thunderbird alongside with YPops. installation YPops and then on Thunderbird use the serever 'localhost.'
