how about keeping the dog out of the kitchen or training it not to do the unwanted behavior. This is a training issue and is going to take all of the humans in your household to work together . Not leaving food out on the counter is a good start and not allowing the dog to be in the kitchen unattended needs to be a priority. Crate training is a good idea for when you are not home. Hitting is not going to help and punishing the dog in any manner after the fact is pointless. you have to catch the dog in the act and deal with it then and there or they don't understand why they are being punished. your first step should be not setting the dog up to fail. good luck.

Well first things first, it would help to not leave food out. One suggestion I've heard is a mirror set up so you can be in one room and somewhat monitor your dog's actions. You have a can of coins that she never sees. When you notice her counter surfing, rattle that can until she drops back to the ground. It will startle her. After a few times of this, she'll begin to associate counter surfing with that unknown noise. The object of this is that she doesn't know where the noise is coming from.
I haven't tried this personally but I've heard good results came of it, as long as the dog isn't overly shy. With my dog, I just had to constantly supervise. All's well now.

Some people think i am cruel some people agree with me. When i a smaller dog isdie and he got on the counter you can't just say no and yell cause they know there is food there and they'll keep doing it they aren't dumb. So if u catch the dog up there u have to rub his nose in in and spank his but hard otherwise he wont realise that the counter is a bad place to be.

WOW plenty of questions! I'll take on the primary one. And it might support to understand how historical he's.:) one million -You would ought to get him checked via the vet. If he has a urinary tract contamination then he may not be ready to support it and all teh coaching and strategies on this planet may not difference a factor. two -Lose the pee pads. This is a definite fireplace solution to CONFUSE your puppy due to the fact that what they be taught is that it's okay to pee within. They don't udnerstand that there's some thing magical approximately the pee pads that makes it adequate. three - Take him open air in most cases so he has the danger to pee external. When he does, compliment him in a comfortable voice and perhaps even supply him a deal with. If you'll take the paper / throw rug / something that he peed on within the apartment and placed it in which you desire him to head external as a way to pass some distance in educating him to head open air. four - Do now not go away him unsupervised within the apartment. Keep a watch on him perpetually and if you happen to see him sniffing like he's approximately to "pass" get him external. Play with him just a little too, or else he'll get the thought that he's being punished for peeing and / or peeing external and that it the final factor you desire. five - Never ever scold him for peeing interior. If you do all as a way to occur is he'll determine it is a dangerous thought so that you can see him peeing after which he may not pee open air while you pass on walks. He'll additionally get well at being sneaky approximately peeing interior so he can hinder the punishment. 6 - Be sufferer. Now that he has the dangerous dependancy, exchanging it may not occur in a single day. Dogs do not all of the sudden "get it" after which act ideal. Instead what is going to occur is that there can be fewer and less injuries and he's going to get it proper increasingly in most cases till eventually he's going to be housebroken. It might take approximately 2 months. Be sufferer and regular and well good fortune!

keep a leash and collar on her at all times when food is out and tempting her. When you see her do that jerk on the leash very hard and say NO in a loud, firm voice. If she is a large dog, try a pinch collar instead of a normal collar as it will have more effect. DO NOT pull on the leash, just firmly jerk and release and say NO. Some dogs like to "counter surf" for food. You have to be consistant and do it EVERY time she tries to do that.
Good luck

I have 2 suggestions. First, line the edge of your counter with tin cans. When she jumps up on the counter, they will scatter and cause a loud noise thus scaring her. The other option is to bait her. I know, you are trying to avoid this, but you need to catch her in the act! The reward far outways the punishment. You need to be around for this one though. Fill a tin can with coins and watch for her to jump on the counter. When she does, shake the can loudly and come running for her. Please don't spank your dog but give her a good scolding and put her in a time out. Best of luck!

Call your veterinarian's office. They may have some suggestions, or they might be able to put you in touch with an animal behaviorist who could give you some ideas of how to modify your dog's behavior. Almost all bad behavior in a dog can be unlearned...it just might take a little work on your part.
You can also buy books about dog behavior at Petsmart and other pet stores. You could probably find some at the library, too.
By the way....hitting her won't help. It will just make her neurotic and/or aggressive.

Don't leave food out.
Seriously stop feeding your dog any and I mean any people food. It is bad for the dog anyway. Let the dog know that you mean business. Your dog should know by the tone of your voice that jumping on the counter is bad.
Good luck.

They sell little electropic things that makes a high pitch noises when something jumps (cats, dogs) up on the counters. Or some bark. I suggest, if your pet hates water, use a spray bottle and spray them continuously in the face till they jump off and tell them no loudly!
