We recently got a golden lab puppy and I'm not sure when I should feed it or how to tell when it is hungry.
Help please?

Depending on the age, you feed it 2-3 times a day on a schedule. They eat or not. If after 15 min. the food is not gone...you pick up the food until the next meal. Soon you eliminate the middle meal if there is one, and go to two meals a day. It is easy!!!!!! They may be hungry ALL THE TIME, but you only feed at meal times or you end up with a FAT puppy.

Your breeder should have told you this... Get on to them straight away and if you cant reach them contact your vet. In theory though, they should eat once a day, and you can tell when theyre hungry because they will look around for scraps and crumbs, pull over bins etc. Feed him at a set time every day and you will tell by how much food he leaves or how much he looks for more, if you are feeding him too much or too little. It is common sense if you are unsure ask the main man/..... the vet.

Good Luck.

A lot of dogs will learn to graze, meaning they will snack on their food though out the day. When they are puppies, it is best to feed them twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Use a day's worth of food and give them half a serving with each meal Make sure he has lots of water all the time. Sometimes you have to coax them to drink because they do not understand that the dish has water in it.
By feeding your puppy twice a day, they will develop healthy eating habits and have less of a risk of being overweight. (As long as you monitor their intake)
And...
NO PEOPLE FOOD!!! :)
Good luck!

You shouldn't just feed the pup when it's hungry. Depending on it's weight, size and breed, you should feed it 2-3 small meals per day until your Vet says otherwise.
Write down a schedule for when you have the time to feed him/her.
For example, 10am, 3:30pm and one more at 7pm or something.
But ALWAYS have fresh, clean water for him/her.

Puppies are always hungry. Or at least, they think they are. If you feed him in the same place, same bowl every time, it will be a very short time before he will learn to go to his bowl, stare at its emptiness, then look at you to let you know he's hungry. I have never had this fail.

You should always leave food for you dog. It is called free will feeding. Just put a about a cup of food down for it and let it eat as it wants to. Of course you would add more as the dog grows. Always keep fresh water and food for it daily.

When they are awake!! Honestly, get on a schedule. Feed at the SAME TIME EVERYDAY Typically ask your vet or read the back of the dog food bag for serving sizes. I have Rottie so it would be less for your kid... ;)

they usually whine and cry when they are really hungry, but if it too young u should not wait for him or her to cry, u should feed him or her every 3-4 hours. it depends on her age, ask a vet or look in the internet according to his age.
