They arent paid anything. It's a court show. Why should the clients be paid? It's court. In front of a real judge.

They don't get paid. However, if they lose, they do not have to pay the judgment. The deal is that they agree to abide by the judges ruling, and the show pays the judgment to the winner. On top of that they get to be on TV!

i dont know if the last answer is correct about their judgements being paid out by the show. i think they're paid a fixed amount for their appearance because the show itself apart from being a court, also makes money with the commercials.
