Anytime you have a larger primary tube for the exhasut it is better. The exhaust flows more freely through the larger pipe. Look at is as water going through a straw and water through a garden hose, which one moves more water? So you will have morepower and a cooler engine as well.
good luck............

Go with the 1 3/8

Really the difference is airflow. For instance I had the choice of 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 headers for my 1995 Camaro Z28. I chose the 1 5/8 because they matched my particular modifications better. Airflow is good, but too much is bad. The larger headers would've slowed me down on the low end. Now if I had a "built" motor with a lopey cam and ported/polished heads I would've gotten the larger header. For you in particular I would say get the smaller header. You won't notice any gain going bigger and if anything may lose acceleration off the line. Now if you plan on doing alot more mods such as the cams, and internal engine work get the bigger headers now and save yourself money in the long run. It's really up to how you want your car to be in the end. For your car as it is, backpressure is necessary in the exhaust.
