something i know everyone does but not sure if its technically "legal"
in US

let's say that we are on a road with one lane going each way with double solid yellow line and the speed limit is like 40mph

there is a slow like construction vehicle going about 10-15 mph and a car of some sort with its hazards on driving the same speed behind him

now I obviously don't want to stay behind him since he is going so slow...am i allowed to pass...cross the double yellow line...providing there is no oncoming traffic on the other lane? like..if there were a cop behind me, would it be okay for me to pass someone going this slow even though there is a double yellow line?

SOME cops would let it slide, some wouldn't. There are some who go STRICTLY by the book, AKA JERKS!

Even if I were cited, I would go before a judge and explain the situation, and hope he has some pity. AKA a brain.

No my friend. Technically it is not legal due to the fact that you cannot cross that double yellow line regardless of how slow the driver in front of you is traveling. However if the driver in front of you pulls to the side of the road, obviously, you can pass. So basically it's up to the courtesy of the folks in front of you. Don't rely on it though.

No you cant cross the double yellow line. You just have to suck it up and drive slow. Now if the cop passes you and you follow i doubt he will do anything seeing as how he did it too. Unless he is running code in which case he is allowed and you arent.

no. But if the vehicles pulled over toward the side to let people pass a small bit over the line would probably be OK. In fact I've even seen cops do that.

Regardless of how slow the vehicle in front of you is going, if there is a double yellow line, it is illegal to pass.

You would be cited for it. You may NEVER cross the double yellow lines (even to avoid an accident).

You know in your heart that it is illegal, but go ahead...we all do it.
