No, it distracts from the learning environment. School is for learning and concentrating, music is for fun and enterainment.

Well, no one should listen to music during class. High school students don't. College students don't. If you are listening to music (I am assuming through headphones and an iPod or other MP3player), you will not be able to hear the instructions/direction/teaching of the teacher, the MAIN reason you are in school. Besides, it also helps to shut you out form the world, a barrier of sorts, and this is the time you need to learn to interact with others. Listen to your music at home. Learn/listen in school.

I agree with the above, the only music that should be listened to is if you're in band class. However, in some studies it has been shown that some students benifit from soft playing music...background noise. Something soft such as classical piano. But, as for a student just listening to his iPod whenever he pleases, then no.

NO. while in class, students should be concentrating on the subjects discuss that class period. Listening to music takes away the attention and directs it away from whats important and that is to be attentive and aware of whats going on.
Listening to music defeats the purpose of going to class.

SOME students are allowed to listen to music in class...
if the student has an IEP and stated in that IEP that they may listen to music via disc/ walk man, then by LAW the must be given the opportunity.

You need to stop listening to music in class and learn the difference between a question and a statement. Learning about punctuation couldn't hurt you either.

Students should be paying attention to their instructors. Kids nowadays take everything for granted. Put it this way, if you want anything out of your life you will cut out the distractions and focus on studies.

Yes, if the activity is appropriate for them to do so. They will not study at home in silence, will they?
