no, i don't think they are cheating. this site is just as valid a resource as the Internet itself, and like the Internet requires the person asking the question to consider what they believe to be correct, and compare it to what others are saying; then choose what answer seems most accurate. it also can help to give ideas if they are trying to come up with a new perspective on the topic. and if it is just a couple of factual details, then why waste time searching a text book or scouring the rest of the Internet if they don't have their text book with them if they can just ask here.
on the other hand when a kid asks for help on how to cheat in his maths test because he can't memorise all of the formulae, well that is just a different case all together.

No. It's a valid use of a valid resource, kids using the tools available to them to figure out answers are being resourceful, and people generally give explanations along with answers. I have a greater problem with all the stupid quota-filling formulaic homework kids are given in the first place.

no for two reasons, any one can give a wrong answer, and two.
thats life these days, you not suppossed to apply yourself. if you dont spend you time avoiding independent thought and schemeing as a kid, how you going to be able to give it up when you walk into an office and require it merely for survival?
cheats prosper, fact of life!next you'll be telling kids their appearance isnt important and capability is more important than qualifications! oh dear, I think I need a lie down.

No. It's asking for opinions. How many different answers do you get per question? It's not cheating at all.

asking for a direct answer to the question itself is cheating but getting them to think about it and think it over for themself is another thing. That's what I used to do with my son

Not really .... Some parents cant cope with the early days school subjects such as Maths and English litrature including myself. This is one of the reason I could not have kids.
"Yahoo answers" is great service to everyone. Well done Yahoo.
