I only know one way to eat when I'm out in public. So, I have only one set of manners. My parents convinced my brothers and me years ago, that practice of good manners reflects not only self-respect, but respect for others. So, it makes no difference who's present. (This isn't easy in the rib places which serve food on butcher paper and feature the napkins which fall apart after one use.)

I have decent table manners whenever I eat outside of the home. I try not to turn it on more at a fancy place because it's pointless. They're already getting a lot of my money, why kick up the manners a notch. Not like the head server or owner is going to see my table manners and offer me money or anything.

Denise W,
Good table manners are hard to keep. so you should do it all the time, kind a like training for when you do go to a fancy resturant. I have a terrible time with keeping my elbows off the table, I have to tell myself constantly not to do it.

You should use good table manners at all times in all places. Even at home, that way it will just come naturally to you.

I was never really taught many table manners beyond "Don't put your elbows on the table" and "Don't talk with your mouth full" so I just kind of play it by ear, no matter what kind of restuarant (or at home, for that matter)

Manners and good upbringing have nothing to do with where you are, who you're with, what you're doing, or how you're dressed. If you act one way in certain curcumstances, and another way at other times, you do not have good marrers or upbringing. You're simply putting on an act.
