The longest relationship lasted 28 years and ended in divorce as soon as my last child left home and I had fulfilled my parental duties.
I was 46 then.
I have been involved with a number of different mates since becoming single again.
The mate I am with now is the other half of the second longest relationship I have ever been in, and it hasn't been a year yet.
My marriage ended because my wife was in to "cheating" and after 20 years of celibacy while she did her thing I felt that I had given enough of my life over to being the best parent I knew how to be.
Subsequent relationships ended because even at my advanced age I was too inexperienced in handling affairs of the heart as well as affairs of the body, my attitude toward mates was awful, and I should not have been playing around until I had collected myself after so long in need of a mate but not having one.
In other words, I just didn't have a clue!
I like this mate very much indeed. But I'll never marry again, and I'll never become a truly committed partner - I'll never surrender about anything again and that makes it difficult to reach compromises. I will never betray her; I just don't do that. But sometimes, loyalty just isn't enough. And I suspect that it may bring things to an end, eventually.
Oh well, such is life eh?

Romantic relationships: 3 the others really don't count...
The longest is still going on, 3 years+
The others ended because we were at different places in our lives, career, school...

Since my divorce, probably 9 or 10. They ended for various reasons. The longest before now was about 2 years. We just weren't compatible. He refused to give up the lifestyle he was used to.

I've been in 3 serious relationships. The first relationship was in high school. I was a senior and he graduated a year before me. I went with him because I thought he was cute but he had bad breath so I never kissed him. We went together for about 6 months. He went to my Homecoming with me and he wanted to take me to my prom but I broke up with him before it because his breath was always so stinky.
The next boyfriend I had was in college and we were together 4 years. He was 2 years older than me and when he graduated, he stayed in Ohio trying to wait on me to graduate. Then he got a good job it was in Philly so I told him to not wait on me and to move back to puruse his career and I woudl follow him once I finished school. We tried to do the long distance thing for about a year but eventaully we lost trust in each other and we broke up.
The longest relationship I had was the very last one with my son's father. We were together for 6 years. I ended the relationship because we were not compatiable since we were fighting and arguing everyday and we realized we were just together for our child.
Now I have been single for about a year and the dating life is not all that, but I do enjoy my freedom.
