Further away.
Man has become so enamoured with his ability to make tools that he has forgotten the meaning of life, which I believe is to eveolve spiritualy.
Technolgy does not aid an advancement of spirituality (and I do NOT mean religion)

Technology doesn't do one or the other -- how we USE it is what can bring us closer or further from humanity.
Take Yahoo Answers -- if you become part of the community here, if you empathize with people having problems, if you honestly try to help people with honest questions, it can bring you closer to humanity.
If you only use it to bash others, or to argue, it can do the opposite. It's up to the technology user, not the technology.

It allows us to conect and respond in new ways - not closer, not further, but differently. I think it's great. What I like about technology is how it lets a guy/girl without big family money to found their own business and connect to the world, and not have to work for someone else their entire life. It spread success chances to more people. I also like how VOIP is making phone calls less expensive...that makes me talk more!

There constantly have been and constantly would be merciless, selfish, insensitive, callous, self-entitled human beings. regrettably, I agree issues have long previous downhill rather plenty these days. a good style of the time, it rather relies on a minimum of a few thing, even even with the incontrovertible fact that human beings each and every now and then ignorantly blame the incorrect human beings. as an occasion, the immigration regulation in AZ is a backlash to the intense unemployment expenditures and the phobia that unlawful immigrants are taking jobs away. they do no longer rather see that that's because of the fact there have been and nonetheless are some very grasping human beings someplace else who could rather enhance their own salaries than provide properly-paying jobs to workers under them or have swindled their purchasers. i think of people who use "I worked tricky for my funds! I shouldn't could provide it away!" are conversing out of worry, as are the human beings in help of the AZ regulation. everybody works tricky, that's all relative, and interior the tip some funds could pass to those who can use it at present or circuitously to purchase issues that human beings larger up have produced or are in fee of producing, so the money is going decrease back to them besides. i desire that once this recession is over human beings would be somewhat greater grateful for what they have and somewhat greater empathetic in direction of others. And there are additionally constantly sturdy human beings to counter the crappy ones :)

Experience of humanity has to happen within oneself, not anywhere on the outside. One has a choice to maintain this awareness, and use every technology to make life comfortable, instead of getting stuck to it. Like, if we like a good vehicle, and start loving it 'too much' , we may forget the basic use and purpose of it... and end up just polishing, maintaining it all the time, and even refusing to get out of it when the destination is reached ! The best technology is human body, with its complex capabilities, vulnerabilities, and easy to get stuck to it too !

I think our recent history has shown that technology brings us further from each other. Before television, people had more face-to-face time with friends and family to talks things through. With computers and the Internet, more people spend more time alone.

Technology is only a tool that we humans use to change your world.
It can only bring us closer or further away from humanity,
Only if we choose to use it fore that purpose.

"WellTrave" is right on. To the answers, I'd also like to add that technology has done incredible things in science, medicine, so on. "Subjectively," we can consider it a "good" or a "bad" thing, but it's neither. Seems as if some people think of "technology" as a thing totally separate, as if it just happened all by itself.

Technology, as well as science its a mean for us to shape our world, and ourselves by extension.
Technology is a tool of our curiosity and intellect, that lets us discover more about our world and us, and because of would be better used if we understood that we are a little part of this world.
Its Opposite is religion. Religion is paradigms and axioms, static, limited. We are creations of a higher being and our world is inferior, our world is a tool and curiosity is of little use.

technology changes humanity.
Instrumental contingency makes us face our own.
And we accept. We accept this domination. Technology
is our holy grail, our fountain of youth and ladder to heaven. Immortality has never been more serene: our life condition, and our punctuated leap into the answers of the universe.
We do not yield, but throw our bodies on the pyre -- the close flame enthralls nascently.
