Ummm..... loaded question. No vacuum cleaner these days is built to last. Dyson is about the best engineered on the market but it does have its faults. Chief amongst them is the pipe which is flexible but prone to ripping if you handle it too violently. The best Dyson is still the DC04 and now most electrical shops are doing very good prices on them. Don't buy a Hoover I implore you, the return rate as faulty on them has gone to about 1 in 3. Some Vax machines have had a 100 per cent return rate
And as for Goodmans-well let's not even bother. Panasonics are pretty good, a lot lighter in weight and just as reliable as the Dyson but they dont develop as much air flow so the "sucky power" isn't the same. Avoid any bagless cleaner that says it has a smart box as these clog up over time and you have to get a new one. If you buy any upright cleaner be careful with it on the stairs and particularly the Dyson as it's easy to pull them down and they hurt when they hit you. Stair cleaning is much easier with the cylinder types in Dyson it's a DC08.
Hope that's useful.

Having attempted countless distinctive makes, and had many conversations with hoover restore human beings, there are purely 2 makes i might choose for - Dyson or Henry. I also have a Dyson DC04 (upright) and a Henry, and that i would not replace them for the international. surely suited for my desires.

VERY unreliable and liable to break down- read the reviews.
They do work well though, I have to grudgingly admit.
Brilliant design but they don't last long. Also they tell you you will never need to buy another hoover bag, then they try to sell you some over priced "filters".
They are gimmicky but the ladies do love them. The most common failure is that the hose splits, followed by motor failure.

expensive but really good, make sure you dont get the upright ones they are hard to move because of the weight and dont get into the corners..
i have both the upright and the "other version" (opposite to upright) the one that is like a small animal i guess lol
good hoovers to have tho
you can see the dirt!
