I have a 96 Nissan Maxima GLE. Last week, i tried to start the car and nothing happened. No lights, no intererior lights, no cranks, no door locks, absolutely nothing, as if I wasn't even trying to turn on the ignition. (Earlier in the week, my stereo system also died, which i dont know if its associated with it.) So I assumed it was the battery, bought a new battery for it, and everything worked fine, even got the radio working again. Checked the alternator and it was fine from Advanced Auto. Two days later, same thing happened, nothing was working when I tried to start it. I even tried to jump it but it didnt work, the car still showed no signs of life. What could be wrong? Is something draining the battery? Could it be the starter? THANKS!

if you got a new radio with huge speakers and amp and everything then it will drain your battery

Your starter wouldn't be the cause of this, unless the power wire is dangling, but you only get power to the starter when your turn your ignition. It could be severel different things...the new battery could still be defective, so try getting that checked out first. check your battery terminal cables and post...if they are worn and corroded that could be a factor in your loss of power as well. If you have any aftermarket products installed on your vehicle like stereo or speakers with a amps then that could be installed wrong therefor contribute to your power loss. Last is probably the most costly one...you could have a faulty power wire somewhere in your vehicle which is grounding out your battery...this you would have to take it to a shop and get an electical test on your vehicle to determine where the problem is....these are just some of the factors....you should consult your mechanic or the dealer to see if there is any recalled defects on your vehicle prior to fixing the problem...if it is a defect then you could get it fixed for free....good luck!

You need an ammeter to check if something is draining your battery. Turn everything off, close all doors etc. and connect the ammeter inline between a battery cable and one battery terminal. If it registers more than a few milliamps (like for the clock and computer) you have a drain.

If you show a drain, start removing fuses from your fuse block one at a time until you identify the circuit that is causing the drain. Your owners manual will list the accessories that are on that fuse's circuit. Check them one at a time until you find the drain.

you definately have something draining the battery big time, get the battery charged up and hook up the negative terminal and then take the positive terminal and just touch it to the positive post and see if you get a spark and if everything is shut off you have a short someplace, the only way to find out where it is , is to pull one fuse at a time and recheck to see if it's still sparking at the battery terminal. If you pull a fuse and then you don.t get a spark at the terminal you have found the circuit that the problem resides.

Disconnect the positive lead off the battery and then put a 12v globe between the battery and the lead.If the globe lights up there is something draining it.Check for boot(trunk) lights and und hood lights etc.

Have some one check your alternator. I have a 1998 Nissan Altima and I 've had to replace my alternator 4 times already.
I hope this will help you.

I replace good tested alternators all the time. Seems they intermittently charge then draw when the car is turned off. Your car is due for an alternator, good luck

normally the battery is only used to start the car--the alternater recharges it as you drive--most time when you have this kind of problem its the alternator--i would have it check by a mechanic--or another thing most ppl dont know about--cell phone chargers for your car can kill it--my cousin's charger killed her grand prix and grand am

ALL NON FACTORY ALTERNATORS ARE JUNK.when you buy them thru a local parts store the rebuilder does not replace as many of the problem parts .nissan rebuilts last as long as the original one did.30years nissan experience .i have replaced alot of those aftermarket parts and haven't seen any of the nissan rebuilts go bad.
