these are anti static devices so you don't get a shock from the car door if it's metal when you open it.

As todays car seats are mainly material movement whilst Travelling creates static electricity that cannot discharge as
the tyers insulate the car
So the strap contains a metal strip that touches the road to take Static to earth so you don't get a shock as you get out of your car

They're not fitted on cars as standard. They're anti-static strips that people believe reduce travel-sickness. However, there's conflicting evidence as to their effectiveness...! In some instances, people have been cured of travel sickness because they believed the strips were fitted, even though they weren't!

In addition, they can help to prevent the static shocks that we often get from cars by providing a path for the buildup of static electricity back down to earth.

They use to put a black dangly thing on the back of cars to ground the car to the road. Why they did this may have had something to do with the radio. Back in those days. around the 1940-50"s

have you ever got out of a car and got a shock when you've touched the door to shut it? well this thing you ask of stops that by earthing the car to stop the build up of static electricity.

every car should have one (if I'm getting in it anyway!!)

If you notice these straps they only touch ground when you actually slow right down or stop it then discharges static electricity and is supposed to help travel sickness as already mentioned
