I have a female pug 8 months old, I was planning on breeding her at or around age 3. She is in her first heat and I have done well to keep her confined away from the neighbors male pug.. Unfortunately my grandson opened the gate while I was gone and the male mated with her..I am freeked about it! She is large for her age..about 17 pounds and we refer to her as lard butt.. but still she is young.. I called the vet and they do not do abortions, I don't want to spay her but if this pregnancy takes and there may be harm done to her I will do it..any advice

Once the female dog goes into heat, she's old enough to become pregnant, and even carry a healthy pregnancy. However, the problem with breeding too young is they are immature, and do not understand what's happening. Often times they will refuse to nurture the pups. So if the pregnancy keeps, I recommend purchasing the bottles, formula, vitamins, and a good birthing box with lots of blankets for warmth...Get ready to do this all yourself without her help.

And spaying her is a good idea. Unless you are breeding to improve the breed, it's cruel. Most of the dogs found in the shelter are purebred dogs; from backyard breeders. Don't breed her for any other reason than improving the breed.

You have 2 purebreds that you are going to deliberately mix to make a mutt. How stupid are you?! A puggle is not a hybrid, it's a mutt....a mix...a mongrel. Something that should never have been done intentionally. No GOOD breeder would mix 2 breeds together. IF you had 2 purebreds, with all health certs done, that met/exceeded breed standards, that were titled or had champions in their immediate pedigree, were AKC registered, with great temperaments and you offered a guarantee and knew what you were doing...they'd need to be at least 2 years old. You need to get all your dogs spayed and neutered. Realize there is no such breed as a puggle, that it's just a fancy name for a mutt. Get a job and raise money for college instead of screwing up your dogs life and adding to the homeless animal population. Get financial aid or scholarships. Hell, get a student loan. For GODS SAKE don't breed mutts!!!

8 months is WAYYY too young! Your dog could easily die from this, and if she survives, she will probably never be able to breed again from the damage this pregnancy will cause. I'm a groomer, and we have 2 young pugs we groom who are in TERRIBLE shape because they were puppy-mill dogs who were bred in their first heat. They have a ton of health problems, they are stunted in size, and they are just generally depressing to look at.

It's tough to lose a breeding female, and waiting until age 3 would have been perfect and she could have been a very happy mom. Unfortunately, I think it's in the best interest of your dog that you spay her immediately and let her live as a pet- you don't want to risk losing your baby for the sake of this litter of pups.

She is pretty young. Most Pugs need to have c-sections, and being yours is so young I would absolutely schedule one before her due date. Sometimes very young bitches are too immature to care for their pups and won't do it. Do you have the money for a c-section ($1,000 -2,000) and the time/expertise to hand raise the puppies should she refuse? It is your decision, just be prepared if you choose to go through with it.

I totally agree with you . But find yourself another vet because my vet does them if you think there is harm going to be done. It is better than letting your female pug die right ? Get her there if it needs to be done.

you can't continue to allow your dog to go into heat, it causes medical problems as the dog gets older. the vet can abort the pups if she is pregnant, your vet won't others will. Get her spayed. 25% of all dogs turned into animal shelters are pure breds.
