it says it itself...4 wheels = 4 wheels and 2 = 2..
an engine creates power, that power will be converted trough your gearbox, and divided to 2 or 4 wheels, its as simple as that.
and wich one to choose, depends on what you would use it for.
if its just to drive in the city, you prolly better of with a 2 wheeldrive,or if you live country with roads not so good than in the city's,or mountain-area you prolly could use a 4 wheel better.
keep in mind that a 4 wheel uses more fuel.
greetings

Four wheel drive uses all four wheels to propel the car whereas a two wheel drive only uses two. There are several factors to take into consideration to choose which one will suit you best:

1. If you live in a rocky area where snow falls often or out in the country with unpaved roads (such as the mountains or if you go mudding often) definately choose four wheel drive. It'll prevent your car from sliding all over the ice. If you live on a flat plain two wheel drive is probably better.

2. You cannot rotate tires on a four wheel drive car. Since all four tires are separately turning this creates uneven wear on the tires. You'll have to buy new ones instead which can be expensive.

3. Four wheel drive is really more for performance driving. If skilled enough, you can take a corner at 80 miles an hour and make it a lot safer than you can in a two wheel drive car.

Good luck with your decision!

It determines how many wheels are connected to the transmission (which is what gives power to the wheels)

for 4wd all four wheels get power, and if you have limited slip, it allows for better traction control.

2wd only 2 wheels can get power, the other 2 are just along for the ride.

If your in a big city, typically 2wd vehicles get slightly better gas mileage than 4wd vehicles. You also have a lot more mechanical stuff in a 4wd vehicle. So if most of your diving is in the city I would recommend the 2wd version.

If you enjoy going off roading, or live off a dirt road where you can get stuck or if you're in an area with a lot of rain (city or country) then 4wd will give you better traction and a little bit more safety.

Personally I would go with the 2wd version, cheaper, typically better gas mileage and I don't do any off roading.

2 wheel rigidity ability that the vehicle is propelled forward (under engine capability) with in basic terms the two rear wheels. 4WD ability that the vehicle could be propelled by utilising all 4 wheels. that's accopmlished by utilising the shifting of a lever or the pushing of a button on the dashboard. The "difference" is that 4WD will enable being waiting to rigidity in "off highway" situations. that's extremely available fro muddy roads, tough terrain, and different confusing highway situations. it quite is not a license to get out on the line and act like a fool. Ice situations are actually not any further favorable to a driving force in a 4 wheeler then a nicely recommended driving force in a 2 wheeler. It in simple terms ability once you screw up in a 4 wheeler you will look greater silly.

4 wheel drive have power turning at least on wheel on each axel while two wheel drive only has power to one axel and possible one or two wheels on that axel depending on what you get make and model and so on...
if you get one with positrack or limited slip differential you will have for a two wheel drive both wheels on the axel taht gets power from the engine pulling .. and for 4 wheel drive all wheels on both axels pull when 4 x 4 is locked in or selected ..
then there is all wheel drive in which all wheels pull all the time with limited slip adn elliminating the need for selecting when you want it to pull ;;; confusing but if you get loads of snow or loads of rain you may want to get a 4x4 if not two is just fine ... off road of any form you want 4 x4

Actually, if you live where it snows a lot, AWD (all wheel drive) is better. Subaru runs about 90% of the power to the front wheels until it detects slipping, then it goes about 50/50.
