I would go with a light maple coffee table, some off-white/cream end tables, a black tv cabinet...maybe with glass doors. If you go with a large entertainment center, however, I would go with something in a lighter earth-tone finish. Milk-paint finishes are really cool too, because they have worn-through colors. Carpet does make a difference too, so if it is dark, go with lighter colors, and if it's a light color, go with some more darker colors. Think "up". You don't want to walk into the room and feel sucked into an abyss. You want the pieces in the room to draw your eyes upwards. I hope this helps you a bit.

Congrats on your first apartment! Based on your communication of a dark chocalate brown sofa (s).....Good color choice. That color represents a neutral color that provides you with lots of flexiblity to accessorize and select potential other furnishings.

Due to limited information provided.....I would recommend you consider and/or provide the following answers to have the most favorable outcome.

1. Size of the room?

2. Your lifestyle? Contemporary? Eclectic? Antiques/Period Furnishings etc.

3. Budget?

4. What is the focal point of the room and the placement of the furnishings to justify the most favorable space planning.

5. Do you need additonal storage space to be consider with an elective coffee table (s) choice (s)? You wrote plural for coffee tables? Perhaps 2 cubes that you could arrange together or apart. You could also place a larger tray on top to host magaizines, reading material, bowl of fruit and other options when entertaining. The cubes are square box looking... with a flat surface that offer multiple uses in a solo fashion or grouped apart or together. You can also gain additional seating by applying a pillow on top. If made of sturdy construction they can hold up fine. Or can transfer themselves to be end tables.

6. Determining the space, how you would like to maximize the use of your coffee table (s). i.e......storage with drawers and doors or more open and just surface use?????

7. Are you looking for investment pieces that you plan on keeping for years to come. Or are you wanting temporary options for your choices. In any case, I would recommend, that what you decided on.... can be used for more than one purpose. Mulitiple uses maximizes your investment regardless of your budget.

I would also recommend you measure, plan an simulate by using other objects in the space available. Use card board boxes or chairs to provide a mock up look. That way you can get the feel if you are intruding on the traffic pattern or flow, getting up and down......in or out etc.

As for the TV, Costco was carrying a console that hides the TV when not in use. By simply hitting a control button the TV lowers itself into the cabintry when not in use. Also providing lots of storage with the doors and drawers with this Costco TV console/storage in one. You also may want to rethink and consider no furniture needed .....You could hang or suspend the TV... Another option.... a book case that has a large enough cavitiy to house the desired TV. Again......measurements, space, CABLE ACCESS AND HOOK-UP, lighting and a host of components that one needs to address before making the most favorable decision for YOUR NEEDS.

If you have a small area think glass with an open look at the base vs a closed look that would tend to make the room/area look smaller for another option for coffee table......or tables.

Everything does not have to match. Take a notepad, camera, measureing tape and check out various stores and even outlets. If on a budget second stores and garage sales to paint, stain and dress up potential and other unique options. By using a camera......checking out magazines, cataloges and other favorite stores you like... you can form a plan for success first. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY DECORATING THAT SAYS WELCOME HOME.

Try cherry or pear wood coffee table and TV stand, combine with earth-color rug and other warm colors decorations (including pictures, lamp screens and other accessories).

You may want to consider getting a wrought iron coffee table and tv stand. Wrought iron looks terrific with darker furniture and it can give a room a nice look.

How about wicker with glass tops. It will look cozy and isn't formal or stuffy like cherry can sometimes be.

I love painted wood. Distressed eggshell would look great. Good Luck.
