Many people think that comics let people reveal what they truly wish to be or what they truly think their "knight in shining armor" ought to be. Do comics have any real impact on yours or your friends' lives?

Also, what do you think the future of comics and cartooning is with regards to western culture? Many people think the true essence of comics is disappearing with blogs, youtube, and myspace. Other people say though that the internet enhances comics BECAUSE it forces professional illustrators to be more creative while giving ordinary people the chance to publish fun and friendly pieces.

they simply provide a break from reality for me, some thing fun and visual.

i don't think you can take a way the "true essence" of comics, i think as long as people are writing them in what ever medium and people are reading them then it will always be.

What kind of comics are you talking aboout? I personally have gotten into this manga phase and bought a lot of girly shoujo stuff, and I'll read them according to what kind of relationship I think I have. It's like reading a romance novel but shorter and no hard work and lots of pictures and usually not pornographic and aimed at twelve year olds. Comic strips are a regular part of my schedule, I read the newspaper every week mainly for comics and that's how I wake up relaxingly on the weekends. They're so cozy and some of them are funny. As for comic comics like Superman and such, they've become far less popular and convenient. I like reading really old ones my dad has sometimes, but I think nowadays the main point of comics is to be turned into movies or maybe t.v. shows. But of course they're a part of the cultural mind, like Disney.

I like comics. They bring me fun, visions, stories and images. The graphic images can be truly inspiring, sometimes touching on great works of art. If you study art, you can see images being portrayed in the comics and or graphic novels. Although I am a DC fan with superheroes, I also like their Vertigo and Paradox imprints. I also read Marvel and Gladstone. Of the comic strips I really enjoy Lio and Mutts. As to the future, I believe that they are mediums that will continue changing with the future.

I love reading comics. They are like books to me. I love to get away from time to time. And yeah, I spend a lot of money every week. Wow, I am a nerd. Oh well, it is fun. I think that comics will continue to be popular as long as we do not allow them to get posted on the internet for free. Some of those writers and artists deserve money!

I used to be really heavy into comics, especially the X-Men, WAY back when Chris Claremont wrote it and it was GOOD.

Nowadays, not so much. The X movies and the Batman movies have really left such a bad taste that I hate the characters now.

Oh, well, I still have my old stash to re-read.
