What should I register for?

I know that Babies R Us provides a list of recommended items for which to register. However, what items are "must haves" and which can I do without? Also, are there specific brands I should be looking for when registering for certain items? Thanks.

Get lots of those little washclothes (they're 4-6in long/wide). They end up all over the house for me because you never know when you're going to need to catch some spit up or forget to grab the bib.
Teethers do come in handy as first toys and plain distractions well before the first tooth shows.
If you're considering pacifiers only put down for one or two. They're not too expensive to grab later but some babies, like mine, really don't care for them.
Be sure to get both a health and a home safety kit. The health kit for obvious reasons but you'll want the outlet plug, handle covers etc early on. It will seem like a while before baby starts really moving, but progress picks up shortly after babies learn to roll over and it's better to be prepared early than after something happened.
My final suggestion is to not underestimate the power of pee. Even the best designed diaper has a limit on how much pee it can handle and it's guaranteed that several times pee will escape. Don't get your hopes up about poop either, odds are against you. So stock up on diapers and have mattress covers and sheets for the crib. There are also squares of material similar to the mattress covers that are great for protecting clothes from spit up and diaper leeks. Not sure where to get them though.
Otherwise, the registry suggestions will probably cover you. Congratulations and good luck. :)

I almost forgot, onsies that button up beat the stretch ones by far. When you're pressed for time, trying to get an outfit over a baby's head is a new level of NOT having fun.

I always find that the cheaper items like the store brands never last as long as like Advent or Gerber or Nuby or Playtex those are good ones, I have never had a problem with those brands. I suggest with a registry that you may want people to buy all the little stuff, like bottles binkies clothing toys, bibs teethers sheets soaps, ointment, stuff like that and that you should get the bigger stuff like crib car seat stroller high chair, Just so that people don't think that you want all the expensive stuff. Plus if people buy the smaller stuff you usually get more, That's my suggestion.

If this helps, I can tell you which items I never, ever used: playpen (although it did hold toys), diaper genie (a ziploc bag works easier and better), and changing table (you end up changing the baby where you happen to be). I loved my bassinet (she slept in it beside my bed for 3 months), baby swing, and bouncy chair. Good luck!

u need a crib a high chair a comfortable chair for u to nurse of bottle feed your babby and clothes and bedding the rest ois optional plus u can lick what decor u want like winnie the pooh etc

anything Carters...because they wash up very nice:)

`foot stool----is a must...even if you plan not to breast feed, it elevates your feet properly for your back

I agree with going with someone who knows. I know with my first (twins) I wanted everything to be perfect. But my friend kept telling me you don't need that or this...I would get it anyway and then never used it. Listen to others...they have been there and know.
