I recently tried tampons for the first time. I am 14 and my mom doesnt want me to use tampons until i am 16. i felt more comfortable when i was using the tampons then when i was using the pads. I have been menstrating for almost a year and a half. Is there a way i can tell my mom how i feel about this and not have her get all mad?

Good ideas, all of the above.

And even if she gets mad, it's not the end of the world. One more argument out of a lot. But it might make her reconsider, and you may gain from it in the end.

As far as I know, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use tampons before you're 16. I've heard of people saying that ... But it seems to me that if your body is mature enough to have a period, it's mature enough to have a tampon. If she objects because of medical reasons, ask her to provide reasons as to exactly why. If she can't, or if she says something you think might be wrong, do some internet research on the subject and present it to her (or you may just want to do that before you even talk to her). Some parents object because of religious reasons, like it's too similar to sex or something. If that's the case, well, there's not much you can do about that except get your friends to take you to the store so you can buy your own without her knowing.

Good luck.

your mom isn't weird. if you use pads you will get a better idea of what's happenning with your cycle and you will get better accustomed as to what happens on what days so you will know what size and when to use a tampon and when to use a pad. even when you start using tampons you will still use pads at night and when your flow is light. Besides, a lot of girls cycles don't become regular until they're 16-18, so it'd be hard to judge when and what size tampon to wear, increasing the risk of toxic shock syndrome. Your mom isn't being rediculous, there are reasons behind what she says, just talk to her more and find out, I'm sure she's told you, you just don't want to listen, cause you're 14. you might be able to compromise if you show you're thinking logically about it and only want to wear junior sizes when you're doing certain activities like swimming or going to school, but don't argue with her about it, that's the worst thing you can do.

Your mom is weird. I don't think there's a woman out there that prefers pads over tampons. Tell her that it is more comfortable for you to use tampons. (Suck it up and go buy some yourself if necessary). It sounds really dumb to get mad at a kid just because they want to use a tampon.

The only reason moms are cautious is the fact that young girls can get Toxic Shock Syndrome from tampons.
Express how you feel and that you have read and understand the risks.

just explain to her that you feel more comfortable in tampons, and that pads make you uncomfortable...i feel the same way...i could never use anything but tampons...you are a young lady now, and you should be able to make this decision for yourself...as it is your body, and your not hurting anything or yourself by using something else....im sure that she should understand. good luck!

Just be honest about your feelings, and it's not out of line to ask her to explain hers. Why does she object to you using tampons? Perhaps there is a misunderstanding between the two of you.

i think your mom just doesn't want you growing up so fast.
go ahead and use the tampons cuz that is your own personal matter, not hers. no matter what she thinks, that decision should be your own, even tho you are her daughter, your menestration needs are yours.

good luck
