Political correctness is an oxymoron.
But I agree we should "ban" it if we could.
Dumping the GOP come November would be a start in the right direction.

It should be banned because it has gotten out of control. Political correctness is imposing on the right of free speech. Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans and African-Americans are Americans first. When I say "I am an American" that means that I and other Americans are a unique blend of Irish, African, Scottish, Welsh, German, Asian, Swedish, and Native American. Or for others perhaps none of these races or more that I haven't mentioned. Americans are not just one straight "race". We are a blend of cultures, races, beliefs, and values that are unique to our country.
When I go to a foreign country and am asked where I am from, I don't say that I'm Scottish, Irish, German, and Indian (meaning American) because that is my past, I say that I am an American, that is my future. That is what defines me. American first, heritage last.

Yes - Yes- and Yes!!! It has gotten so out-of-hand, its ridiculous. You can't say anything anymore for fear of offending someone. It has gotten so bad that they've even re-written kids fairy tales for cryin' out loud so that kids don't learn all those "bad" words, like "mankind" instead of "humankind" and so on.
Ridiculousness run amok: Garbageman - now a Sanitation Engineer
Janitor - Maintainance Engineer
Meter Maid - Parking Control Enforcement Officer
Mailman - Letter Carrier (or in the case of my mail - junk mail carrier)
Manhole - Personhole or Mid-Street-Ingress or Egress Station (huh?)
Congressman - Member of Congress
Fireman - Firefighter
Policeman - Law Enforcement Officer
The list of this stupidity is endless - enough already!!!!

No.
As much as I hate political correctness, no speech or set of believes should be banned.

Yes because it's really running out of control. One should call a spade a spade, you could say.
I hear it's quite bad in the UK (from another Y! user). He/She said that Christmas in the UK isn't what it used to be because it would offend non-Christians. The UK (and others) has had Christmas for soooooo long, why should it be dropped now. Its a tradition of love, giving, family, togetherness. And its been destroyed by PC.

I remember at the outset, it was supposed to be about respect of others - but it very quickly spiraled out of control - into being about control.
It should be a voluntary choice, like manners. That would emphasize the respect portion without being the first amendment nightmare it's become.

Most people don't know that this term was created by the conservative right in order to demonize those on the left who fight for cultural equality.
Is it better to insult people based on how and where they were born?

Explain what you mean!
If it means going along with the Government because that is their current philosophy, or is their party plank (Which I don't give a Sh_t about as no one elected them), Yes!
I vote for someone on their views, unfortunately are meaningless once elected!

No, that's like saying "this extreame sucks, so let's go to the other extreame" Political correctness is stupid and it should be stopped not be censorship, but by educating society to realise how stupid it really is.
