Allot of whom you pick depends on the age of your daughter, and the content you wish for her to be exposed to. Some more main stream choices are:
Wonder Woman
Batwoman, there have been several
Batgirl. there have been several
Supergirl. there have been several
Spider Woman: there have been several
Storm
Jean Grey/Marvel Girl/Phoenix
Rogue
Psylocke
Jubilee
Sage
Elecktra, this may not be appropriate
Starfire
Raven
Polaris
Shadow Cat
Some less mainstream characters:
American Maid
Thorn, not so much a superhero, but a heroine none the less
Magma
Karma
for information on these and other characters you should go to http://www.wikipedia.org
I suggest you read up on them. While you do not need to have Phd in these characters it would be good to know some basic stuff on them, names, powers, costumes, and any contreversial elements. In the world we live in there are many "adult" aspects of superheros. Depending on your beliefs and values and your daughters age and the party she is attending you may not want to use some. For instance, the Elektra comics are generally considered "adult" due to sex and violence. The current Batwoman, as I understand it, is a lesbian.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

It's best to just do a little visual research yourself to make sure that your costume is true to the character. There's nothing worse than going to a party dressed as a character and having some Geek come up to you and inform you that your costume is grossly inaccurate.
here, check these two sites out :
www.dccomics.com/
AND
www.marvelcomics.com/
Those are the two major comic book manufactures in America. Anything else really is just garbage. Check around through their galleries to get good pics and images of different female superhero characters.

There are the oldies, like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, etc. But for more modern ones, Kim Possible is on the Disney channel. The Pink Power Ranger is available in the stores still. Or you can pull from recent movies like X-Men. Storm would be a fun one to dress up as. Hope that helps.

I have to differ with the person who said that only Marvel and DC count, that everything else is junk. Americomics publishes an all-girl superhero team called FemForce. They are big, bold, beautiful super women who kick butt and don't take baloney from anybody. Depending on the age of your daughter, you may or may not consider their costumes suitable for her, but check out their web site in any event.

Well, there's that invisible girl in the Fantastic Four...but that one's hard to pull off.
Supergirl, Batgirl, Catwoman! Yeah, Catwoman! That's a good one. Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn (both from Batman comics.)
Uhhh, Jean Grey? Storm? There are several in the X-Men. X-Women, I guess.
Though some of the better ones are male, I'll admit. Prejudice!
Hope that helps.

How about you research, online for ancient Greek women's dress. Should be fairly simple to put together. Add a metallic tiara, a metal wrist "guard", some sandals.
Find her a little toy bow and quivver of arrows. She can go as an Amazon from Greek mythology.
