i don't see how these two would be mutually exclusive. where is the conflict between innocence and compassion? of course a person can have both at the same time.

Of course they can. I think that an innocent person is more likely to have compassion.

The two aren't exactly mutually exclusive, so yes. In fact, compassion is more LIKELY to be found in people who exhibit innocence; it's the jaded and cynical people that offer indifference and apathy.
