I've got a BMW E36 saloon with a 1000w metre long bassbox with a 1000w amp. Inside the car, the bass sounds top, but outside you just hear rattling and muffled vibrations. How do I get the car to boom without adding too much weight on the car?

Easy!

Sell the BMW and get something that deafens you when you drive on poorly surfaced roads or the concrete bit of the M27.
Say a Fiesta or Golf.. you will then get the effect you want without having to have the windows / roof open so that others can throw stuff at you for annoying them.

Alternatively, leave all the windows and roof open on the Beemer, job done.
For the winter period when it's a bit nippy, get a second sub and amp ( 5000 watts recommended minimum ) and fix it to the roof.
Don't forget to test it thoroughly outside your house before hitting town. 3AM on Wednesday or Thursday is a good time for this, and I recommend using "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead as test material

Uhhhh...Well '1000w' seems to powerful for the car anyway.

Now, getting the car to 'boom' outside of the car...well.

The problem is that the bass frequences travel through the car so every time it booms it resonates through the car making it rattle in places such as the doors boot etc.

Quite simply you wont be able to stop that unless you do some very weird and expensive acoustic treatment...which i dont even know how to do.

Besides what do you need all that bass for, lol? You could just have bought less powerful speakers that are more efficient such which would actualy sound a lot better and in some cases be louder than the speakers you got.

(ITS MORE COMPLICATED THEN I HAVE SAID, JUST CANT BE ARSED WITH EXPLAINING IT ALL).

Stop the vibrations by having rubber washers inbetween your number plates, remove all loose fitted panels inside the car and place you bass box on a soft mat that will absorb shock waves a little better than the base of the boot. Try also turning the bass off of the headunit and having just the mid and high range frequencies without bass through the speakers of the car.

If all that doesnt work then consult the 'Boy Racers Bible' Maxpower...sure you'll find something in there. Good Luck

Your vehicle is designed to mute the sounds from outside so that you have a quiet comfortable ride whilst inside, therefore, it stands to reason this principle will work in reverse.
It's doing it's job nicely and I suggest you be grateful. We certainly are.
Incidentally, why do you feel a need to hear the bass outside the car when you are inside listening to it? That's called immature. It's a juvenile and pointless pursuit that annoys others for no good reason.

you wont add weight-open all your windows or remove weight like interior and weatherstripping and drill holes in the body-thats about it-but i would never do that-if ya want more folks to hear it upgrade to some high quality speakers and a bigger amp/alternator/capacitor/and possibly another battery instead of a cap-ya just gotta buy better and more expensive things if ya want others to hear it-especially in a car thats well insulated and sound insulated

Im no longer disturbed, I in simple terms turn my "develop develop bass platforms"(haha its a valid equipment get it suitable) up louder and drown theirs out then they get pissed reason their kung fu isnt almost as good as mine or we've a all out dB drag. you understand what bothers me, even as those preppy chicks of their v6 mustangs with the right down imagine they could truly sing and wont close the fuc up and in simple terms pay interest to the music, i wish that they had "develop develop bass platforms" (haha) so i wouldnt ought to take heed to them howling like a rabbid duck billed platapus with blue balls and a damaged toe.

One of my pet hates are the @arseholes who blast music that is erm..... lets say "not native to these shores" out of their cars in a bass heavy tone. I would suggest a few kilos of Semtex to make you car go boom!!!!..

I have given your question a thumbs up though for giving me the idea.

Open a window, or two.

You'll make yourself look a prize prick though, and people may want to throw things at your car as you 'slide by'.
