Yes, it is possible. Very, very difficult, but possible.
I have been quit for a month now; this is what has worked for me thus far:
Cold turkey and chewing gum. Avoid social gatherings until you can control the psychological aspect of quitting. Find a reason to quit that will also help. Mine was getting back into athletics and being around long enough to know my great-great grandchildren (my oldest grandchild is three). I am now in serious training to compete in a sprint triathlon next year. I have also done what Coconuts recommends and it works. They watch out for me and help through the bad spots. They also hold me accountable to my workout schedule.
Hope this helps.
I wish you good luck and success regardless of your chosen method of quitting.

With out a question it is possible. Anything in your life begins and ends in your mind, the process of thinking is the process of creation. Firstly you must create leverage for yourself. THINK AND FEEL nothing but bad things towards smoking, until you get to the stage where your brain links nothing but pain towards it, and you are so sick and tired of it, that you will LITERALLY do anything to stop. At this point you've made a new neuro association about smoking... your brain thinks it sucks. Then focus on all the good things you'll enjoy without smoking, always. the word cigarette, or the image of a cigarette must not enter your mind at any time. Even if you think 'i must quit cigarettes', NO you're still thinking cigarettes. Focus only on the benefits you'll enjoy,Picture the quality of life you will have in the future, the health etc. Don't worry about the nicotine, and all the trivial things. Those thing are called the "so what" and "bullsh*t" of life. It's just a dumb habit that's all, You have the advantage, Its you're mind. You dont have to be slave to that habit. "I THINK THEREFORE I AM"

It sure is possible to quit. I quit 25 years ago and could never stand the smell of smoke since. Think of not only the life you may save but also the money. If I were smoking now it would cost me at least 75.00 a week. That would be half of my income. Think about it. The price will never come down. You can buy a lot with 75.00 a week.

i just quit i was smoking a pack a day. I told my co workers that i was quitting so now i am held accountable to them and they watch out for me. when i go over to the group that is smoking one of them will pull me away and have me do something else. I am not using any of the quit smoking stuff like the gum or the patch, the hardest part is when i am driving that is when i want to smoke the most. I am on day 4 smoke free. Just tell your friends and co workers that you are quiting so they will watch out for you, it works

You may think it is not possible, but it is. I quit over 20 yrs ago. I simply stopped. Is it worth killing yourself? Does it make any sense to actually pay money to ruin your health? It is an addiction. You must treat it as such. One day at a time, one hour at a time one minute at a time if necessary. It is very hard but will power will overcome it. You will be so proud of yourself when you stop and you won't stink anymore.

Yes you can, just believe you can. I stopped in 2000 after many many years. I used the nicotine (14mg) patch for two weeks and drank cranberry juice to detox my system. Good Luck, you'll be glad you did.

go to the american cancer society's website for the best information, and keep trying. It is those that don't stop trying that eventually succeed.
