Well, when I was that age, I would have said "yes". However, now that I am a bit older and met many other women, I would definitely say "no". My own family doctor, who is now approaching 60, returned to University to complete an undergrad and medical degree and started at the age of 37 (when she had 3 teenage kids). She has had a successful career and is still working hard at it.

Recently, I met a University professor from Penn State who told me she raised her family and then went to University at the same time that her youngest was attending college (they graduated the same year!). She went on to get her PhD, has done research, been published, has written a book and is on her way to writing several more. She is 70 years old. She told me her life was "just starting". That made me think that I could return to school or work on a new career ...and I'm more than a decade older than your sister!!

Tell your sister that she "must go for it"!!

I don't think it's too late, I went back when I was 36. Just pick carefully if you are going to be borrowing the money. The job I was qualified for when finished only pays mid-thirties, I have a lot of student loans, really can't pay them back. Am teetering on the edge of big trouble (also a single mom). Some jobs pay better than others. Pick a good paying one.

My Aunt started college when she was in her 30s, held a 4.0 at Rutgers all 4 years. She wrote her doctoral thesis on Margaret Chase Smith(the first woman in Congress) and co-wrote a book about her. Now in her fifties, she travels alot and is Chairperson of the World History Dept. at Memphis State. It's never too late!

As someone who just finished their batchelor's degree at the age of 31, I say she should go for it. There were always older folks in my classes too.

Plenty of colleges actually cater towards working students. The one I went to, St. Edwards University in Austin, actually allows students to submit portfolio's for life experience if it covers the same material covered by a class, so it may not require as many classes.

I would suggest starting classes at a community college, since they usually cater to working students and it's much cheaper than four year colleges. Just make sure the credits will transfer to the place she wants to graduate from.

It's NEVER too late to go back to school. She should get her life back in order what's she gonna do if she doesn't have a career? She'll just hang around working at walmart. She needs a life and at this time, college is the only way.

Go for it!

Never to late to learn. However, if she go back to college she should take it slow. Take a few classes first to get back into the swing of things. Taking one or two classes would allow her to get use to school again and she won't lose as much money if she decides to quit. She can even go to a Trade School that specializes in the field of study she likes.

You're never too old to go back to school. Why not start a new career if you can? My uncle is 55 and he has like 5 different degrees... there is no problem with furthering your education.

No way, she just needs to decide what she wants to do. Her age can actually help her get into the college. I'm a college student now, and you see quite a few older students on campus, and I've even seen senior citizens taking classes toward a degree.

Why would it be too late? If she's going on that "I can't go back to school because I'll be 39 when I graduate" line, then remind that in four years she's going to be 39 anyway. But she could be 39 and have a degree, or not - her choice.

maybe a little late for your traditional 4 year college but definetly not for a career focused colleges, schools like Bryman. i heard that a X ray Tech makes tons and only takes like 2 years of training.
