Bipolar is a mental illness that used to be called Manic/Depressive Disorder. This is a chemical imbalance that tends to show up in young adults (early 20s). A person usually will have periods of depression to periods of euphoria. Their behavior is very erractic, they can become extremely restless (not sleeping for days), promiscious and at times combative. There are meds to control this but once the meds get in their system and start to work, the person usually feels like they dont need it and stop taking it.

Hi there,
My son is bipolar with schizophrenia. He goes from being depressed to being manic. His mood will change and will get mad at you for no reasons, he has his quiet times but those are very seldom. He hears voices and thinks that people are following him. People with bipolar think that they are the best thing on earth. Some like my son have a very high I-cue(don't know if spelled correctly). He can build you a computer from the bottom up that works perfectly, as a matter of fact he build the one I am using now. This disorder will never go away. Medications are the only way these people can live a almost good life. We didn't find out that my son had this disorder until one day he tried to commit suicide. Then when they took him to the mental hospital he started talking. He is still not okay but I love him to death, and he knows that I will there to defend and protect him no matter how old he is. I am just content to have him in my life, he has shown me to be compassionate to others like I am with him. So please don't feel sorry for me, God sent me this child because he knew I could handle it. God bless

extreme mood swings and not much in the middle.

if you are bipolar or know someone who is, then best to talk with them while they are up and encourage them to seek help, coz when they are down the can be so depressed they even talk of suicide (some act on this impulse).

i've an ex-girlfriend who is bipolar and she's a wonderful person when up, but her down times are THE most destructive and it's all anyone can do to keep her from hurting herself.

best of luck with this one.
