It's called submissive peeing and it's pretty common among dogs that have been overbred. BTW..don't let her have puppies or she may well pass on that trait.

She probably won't outgrow it. The best thing to do is to have your hubby or any other stranger that pets her, pet her CHEST, not her back or head first.

It's actually a sign of submission and she's deferring power to him because he's male. They often do this with strangers too.

I have doxies that do that too and since we started petting the chest first, it doesn't happen.

Another option is to have him ignore her for a few minutes until she calms down, then he can call her over and it should be okay.

Yeah my step daughters Akita boy did the same with my husband. In her dog obedience class the instructor told her that the animal was being submissive and see's that person as the pack leader and also may be very excited to see them. She advised to not allow the dog to go to him until he was calm and then for the dog to go to him while he sat or kneel so that he felt a little more comfortable. As she gets older she may just grow out of it, you might want to really socialize her with other dogs and people so that she doesn't have a shy or timid problem.

There are different kinds of submission urination, and it's sounds like that's what you have. She's just overly excited and admitting he is the boss when he comes home. IGNORING her for about 5 to 10 minutes when he comes home should help alot (yes, it is hard). Don't huddle on top of her when you do go to greet her.
Tell anyone else who greets her to do the same.
Hope this helps.

A friend of mine had a golden that would pee out of excitement when anyone would come over her house for the first 9 months of her little life. She eventually grew out of it. Don't worry, just keep a steady supply of paper towels near the door. :)

I think she gets excited. Golden retriever, I think that would be a great dog to have. She is just a puppy, love her regardless of her excited peeing problem.

she gets over excited...keep hubbys greeting calm and low key also...i would walk the dog on a leash out to the yard to greet hubby home from work.

It sounds as if your dog is either nervous of your husband or just over excited. Maybe your husband shouls ignore the dog when it comes up to him when he first arrives home, and pat it and give it a fuss when it is calm.

I had a dog that did that with my ex bf. It got so bad I had to put her out whenever he was home.. and one day i sat up the video recorder where he wouldn't see it, and he was beating the heck out my dog. Needless to day the dog stayed the bf left!

she's probably just really excited to see him.. my sister's dog used to do it all the time.. they got into the habit of letting the dog out as soon as they came home.. try letting you dog outside to greet your hubby when he comes home.. if you arent home.. tell him to lett the dog outside before he pats her.. good luck

My golden is almost 6 mo. too! She pees for other people but not for me. I think they just get too excited over people that aren't their "master". I think she;ll outgrow it.
