I think there should be a ban on trans fats. Here is why, because in the good old days before hydrogenated oils and highly processed foods came on the market, people lived without them. Humans were not meant to consume chemically processed hydrogenated oils. This type of oil is very dangerous because of the damage that is done to the body when we consume it.It is known to increase risk of coronary heart disease. The National Academy Of Science says there are no safe levels of this kind of fat, because any amount increases the risk. It also lowers good cholesterol and makes bad cholesterol levels higher. Why give little kids this disadvantage? Why should we be encouraged to consume this kind of crap when it is so easy to replace it with something else that does not cause damage to our bodies? This oil only came on the market because it is cheaper and makes foods crisper and last longer. I know that adult people have the right to put trans fats in their foods. They have the freedom of going to the store and buying all the trans fat margarine, oil, and any other garbage they want. When it comes to public consumption, the well being of the majority should prevail. Especially people who cannot speak for themselves, like kids! Anyway, if the oils can be replaced and there is no difference in the taste or appearance of the same food......why not?

I think before they start passing laws about foods based on what research shows may or may not affect you- they ought to stop. Seems like every other day some study somewhere shows something is bad for us- then a few days later it's not. I remember when all the fat was bad- then it was don't eat eggs or avocados. Now it's eat the right kinds of fats, except nobody is really sure what exactly those right kinds are. We'd all be better off eating in moderation, without having to jump through nutritional hoops to do it. So if they make it illegal, will there be folks selling french fries in baggies on the street corners? Or speak-easys where you say the right password to get in for a cheeseburger? Nutrition police? Don't they have better things to do than look over my shoulder to see what I'm eating? If they don't, I have a few suggestions for them. As well as ideas of other things they should be concerned more about.

We are supposed to be a FREE country. If the government keeps going, and takes away everything from us, then what freedom is that. They keep banning this and then that, what is left? People know what is good for them and what is bad for them to eat, and it is their choice to keep going to those places and eating. If I want to go eat a big greasy hamburger and french fries, and add a side of what ever I want with a milk shake to drink, then I don't want the government or anyone else telling me that I can not do it. If they are going to start banning certain types of food, then why even have restaurants in the first place. Hell, why even have grocery stores, they can cook our healthy food and bring it to us. This is supposed to be the land of the free, what is happening to that, where is all our freedom going if we let them tell us how to eat, and everything else they are taking from us

That's like trying to pass an ordinance limiting how many gallons of water can flow down the Mississippi river at any one given time. How're you planning on enforcing it -- hire half of the state to be the Trans-fat Police?

The fact is that you can't legislate common sense in consumers or conscience in sellers.

What about instead we make a law that any successful buisness has to give half of its profits to the government.... that way at least it would be clear what is going on.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I'm an adult now - I can eat a cheeseburger if I want to.

For those who claim, "It tastes the same without trans fats" - if that's true, why haven't the restaurants done this willingly already?

Talk about the government being my mother...

it's lame. I think we're old enough to make the decision whether or not to eat greasy french fries.

Me personally, I can't get enough of the stuff.
