I'm from a family where all my father's children are women. If we get married, the legacy of my father's name is in our hands. But it deals with the history of what marriage means. The bride is being 'given away' to a groom who's been given rights to take care of her from that point on. Hence the tradition why the groom needed the father's blessing.

I'm not a woman, but I have an answer.
Its called Common Law. See when our Country was devloping, we were under the influence of Great Britain. The male had surnames, Sir Arthur, Sir Doyle, whatever. What happened was Sir was later collequially replaced with Mister. However this isn't completely relevent. Men when they got married were traditionally expected to carry on the heritage of their fathers, while women were expected to take on the new name of their husband. However, nowadays a woman may choose to keep her maiden name. But a male is still traditionally expected to carry on the lineage of their fathers. Does it make sense? No. Is it really equal? No. Is it fair? No. But when has anything in life ever been truly fair? I often hear your right it isn't fair, but thats the way life is.

Don't be a follower. Be a leader and do what you want. There is no law saying either has to be done. Especially today.
I think it was done when women were considered property.
I've also heard that in some Spanish cultures the children keep the woman's last name because female parentage was the only parentage that could be 100% certain.

replacing your call by deed pollwon't replace a project as your status will stay the same. in case you adjust your call for your companions without a wedding ceremony ceremony then that is residing a lie. i comprehend a number of those who're in my circle which have married although the lady has kept her maiden call. i imagine that's stunning. the youngsters have taken the fathers call and some are of their mid children. anybody knows the placement and there is not any confusion about something. that's the norm in some ecu international places apparently.

Actually, in this day and age, men can assume their wives last name if they so choose. Unfortunately, in the typical views of society, it is right and proper to assume the man's last name. But, times are changing. You, as a female, do not even have to take your husband's last name if you do not want to. That is solely for you to decide.

Actually, married women HAVE the option not to use their married names. Its legal. But since most courts in most countries are pro-men - this law isn't discussed much.

They do get to change their names. When you get married you have the choice of taking your wife's last name. If not married you can go to court and have it changed..
