Yes. If there is a possibility that the ex can be the father whether you like it or not he has the right to find out if it is his. And if he is the father then you need to go to court and get custody and child support. But he will also have rights.

YES!!! anyone with a just reason can request a paternity test.
However, it also leaves him open to pay child support if he chooses to.
I'd say (and this is gonna hurt but take it like it is ment - someone who wants to help) you need to do some growing up and realize that having a baby without a husband isn't really the best thing for a child. While you new bf may be wonderful.. how many new bf are you going to go through? you need to decide what is important in your life right now (and it should be that little bundle of life you just had) and do what is best for them.. which may mean that you don't have anyone for a while until you figure out why you were in an abusive relatinoship and what you can do to avoide it in the future.

In most states I thought only the doctor signs the birth certificate. But in any case, it lists the names of both parents. If you ex wants to be registered as the father, is willing to take moral and financial responsibility, he can contest what is on the certificate and have DNA testing done. Now, what happens if you and your boyfriend break up, then he will say he is not the father and you will have a potential legal battle on your hands.

Paternity can be contested at any point. Do yourself a favor - get the abusive father to sign off the rights to the child. You realize, however that you get no support if you don't prove who the real father is.

Don't put anyone's name on a birth certificate i am very mad at my mom You would not want someone taking your id and claiming something that is yours that is not I have had that exact happen to me except for he is the father and is on birth certificate but he abused me and you and him have to separate and get a n protection order against him and get him to visit the abby but through suoervised visitations and get child support the father needs the child just as much as you need the child. I am a mom of two and two different fathers the child needs both no matter who the father is my boyfriend wants to claim my son cause he jealous of the father but they can not change the fact that my son has a father. You do that through adoption if the father does not want his baby. I don't have a dad who raised me or known me cause my mom said he abused her but I am a child that has no father and want to atleast needs to see what he looks like no.

Yes. He can. just because someone signs a birth certificate, it doesn't mean that someone else can't contest the paternity of the baby. Hope this helps.

A Father is a father!!! He has rights! Alot of men will be mean to women; but never to a child!!
You should've turned him in for the abuse to you!!
If you go through paternity tests, and he gets visits; make sure you let Friend of the court know of your concerns!!
They may make him have supervised visitations!
You could ask him to sign off his rights..Dead Beat fathers who don't want to pay child support often will do that!!
Just remember the rest of his family who would never know grandchild, nephew, etc...
Don't even ask your B.F. to sign Birth Cert.
Your not even married!!!

Whether you want your ex to be the biological father or not... he is. New bf can be a father in everyother way... but you can't turn back time. Your ex could contest if your bf signs... and unfortunately he has a right to that. It's his child.

REMEMBER THAT A BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT.
Not a good idea in these days of DNA testing.
Get the BF to adopt your child legally. That way everything is above board.
Then ask the court for a restraining order against the abuser.
Good luck to you.

anyone can ask for the test. you can let your bf sign the bc that has nothing to do with court or contesting it. the hospital does not want court papers for paternity signatures.
