I love my man and we are planned to get married on or around my 18th birthday... but things are not going well... He had a brain tumor removed 2 weeks ago and he can't pay for it. It cost $8,953 and he could only get about $3,000 of it... when the hospitol learned they were not going to get their money they made a few moves and yesterday at around 3:00pm he was arrested and is looking at 6 months in jail... the only way he can get out is if his family can come up with the money in two weeks. Now of corse I am going to wait for him but he can't help it that he has no money. All of his family has come together to get him out... putting in as much money as possible but so far we only can come up with $4,832! I don't know what to do. I break down crying every time I see something that reminds me of him... And I don't know what to do!

where do you live that there is a debtors prison? you can't go to jail for not paying your bills in the usa

Either this is a joke, or your not wrapped to tight. First......... major surgery would cost a lot more than $8953.00. Second.............. I've never heard of anybody being arrested for not paying a medical bill. They may take you to court to get a judgment so they can put a lien on any property you own, or garnish your wages and that's pretty much the end of it. Something just doesn't add up with the situation that you say is happening.

Where in the world do you live? There HAS to be more to this story! Doesn't he have insurance? I have NEVER heard of someone being arrested over a medical bill! Did he write a bad check for the bill? Even then, I don't think he would have been picked up this quickly. What is the REAL story?

Sweetie, this guy is playing you for a fool. You don't get arrested and put in jail for 6 months for being unable to pay a medical bill in full immediately. He is in jail for something else. Either find out what that is and come to terms with it, or forget this guy and find another more honest one that will respect you.

What country are you in? The hospital cannot refuse service, or put you in jail for not paying. As long as he makes payments on his bill ($any amount) they cannot put him in jail. Unless of course he did something deceptive to get the surgery, like use a false identity, or insurance fraud. I get the feeling we have not gotten the entire story.

Try to get a loan... If he already has 3,000 and his family raised almost 5,000 all you would really need is 1,000. If not set up a fundraiser. Get the community involved!! It isn't his fault he doesn't have the money!!!!!

They dont put people in jail for not paying their bills. They will garnish his wages. If he is not working then he will go to debtors prison for a short time or do community service. But if he is sick then they will not make him go. QUIT MAKING **** UP.

That sounds not right. You can't get arrested for hospital bills I dont think. They can't even be used for credit reports as bad credit.
