I have a couple of friends that I talk with online or via telephone all the time but have never met. I think there's something liberating in being somewhat anonymous - any chance of actually meeting them in person is scary, because they know things about me (and me about them) nobody else knows. Sometimes it's better to retain a sense of distance.
