My car is a 93 Geo Prizm with about 141,000 miles on it. I was driving down the road, pressing on the gas, and it suddenly started making a low grumbly sound and would not accelerate. I coasted it into a parking lot and now it turns on fine, but whenever I press on the gas it doesn't move. I am afraid it may be the transmission, and if it is is it worth the money to get it repaired?

Check for a broken drive axle. If the axle is broken it will make the noise you describe. If it is not the axle, most likely the transmission has a problem. Check for proper fluid level, but if the trans is bad, it really is not worth fixing the car.

Good luck!

Could be something as simple as a broken link in the accelerator, or as complicated as the transmission. To find out, have it towed in and looked at. If you leave it sit at the parking lot it will eventually be towed away anyway and then you will have an even bigger bill for towing and storage.

i assume you me an the motor is running but the car wont move.with 141000 miles on it sounds like the transmission, have someone check the transmission oil, if thwe tranny is bad,the oil will be dark colored. it should be red. if its dark and smells burnt, the trannys probably gone.it may not be that but 85percnt sure. your talking a bill upwards of 1000. to 1500 bucks. no the carsa not worth it. good luck.
