I would ask the President (through legislation in Congress) to please address Health Insurance for everyone in the United States and not have it be any more expensive than it is for members of the House and Congress (bush said it would be almost 7000.00 a year for a family). In the same plan would be good health insurance for families not able to pay the same amount. My health insurance (as many other single older people who haven't reached 65)takes 1/3 of my total retirement every month. I am not feeling sorry for myself and other seniors, just sad for all citizens of the wealthiest country in the world who can not afford health ins. for family members.

As president of the USA I would want a law to allow citizen-driven ballot initiatives for federal elections; in other words, to compensate for our currently corrupt misrepresentative federal government we need some "direct democracy" that gives we the people an opportunity to make federal laws. A law created by a majority of voters would not need any approval by the president or the congress, but would be subject to review by the Supreme Court. To appreciate this concept read the great new book Delusional Democracy.

The prime minister doesn't make laws, over here in England the law lords do-however,if i were a law lord for a day,i would pass a law that pensioners should not ever have to live in poverty again-so as of today,no taxes for the over 65s,no T.V licences for the over 65s-and DEFINITELY no poll taxes to pay either-it is the least we can do for these people, our saviours.

The president doesn't make laws. That is the legislative branch.

The question really means if I had the power to make laws, . If I could make one law, here in Canada, I would raise the minimum wage by about $3.00

Just one? How do you choose???

Legalize marijuana?

Legalize same-sex marriage?

Acknowledge the Armenian genocide?

Do away with the Cuban embargoes? (did I spell that right?)

etcetera etcetera.... I got a million of 'em....

Which would make the most people happy? I'm glad I'm NOT the president.

I would establish a U.S. Government Peace Department, and I would make it a law that every U.S. politician must spend at least one month out of every year trying to figure out how to bring on world peace.
