either buy them a tad ripe or if you get them green just let them sit out... pears take some time getting ripe.. longer than most fruits and veggies.

be patient.. they'll soften up and get all sweet.

if i stick mine in the fridge green.... they can take a month or two before they get ripe.

:D

let them out in the warm room tempurature enviroment. maybe but them in a breathable bowl near a window... they'll get there.. they're just slow about it.

eating ripe is more beneficial and delicious.

green hasn't got much other than carbs and fiber. ripened has the best element that we all need or we DIE... that's potassium! keep that potassium up!

Have you tried putting them in a small brown paper bag for a day or two on top of your fridge. That helps peaches, plums and nectarines. It might work for pears too. You are still getting benefits from eating the pear even if it's not quite ripe.

I think the vitamins are there all the time. To ripen then put them into a paper bag or wrap each in newspaper. Leave at room temp. They will ripen quickly. You can put them in the fridge when they get to the right ripness.

It depends on the type of pear. Try Bosc pears next time. They tend to ripen quickly.

I like to cut them in half and soak them in brown sugar and brandy in the refrigerator for a few days.

once they are plucked from the plant they stop developing and storing nutrients.. vine ripened are more nutritious, but store/home ripened just taste better than green is all.
