this is fairly a broad question. in all phases of flight i would say safety and effeciency are a top priority. more reliable engines that use less fuel than before. and if you can keep passengers busy they will consider it a more enjoyable flight and therefore return for business.
oh and the airlines will make more money and that is the most important.
