Line up the dots, Then rotate the engine until the big gears dot [camshaft sprocket] is facing straight up. That means your at #1 TDC [top dead center]. When you achieve this, then you will drop the distributor in with the #1 wire facing the #1 cylinder. [first plug on driver side front]. If you have vacuum advance distributor, then you will want the pod to be on right rear side half way between the firewall and carburetor. Dot to Dot - make sure you are at the 5 oclock possition on the distributor that is where #1 is located - if it has a vacume advance that will face the 7-8 oclock possition.

they point straight towards each other, Camshaft dot or mark points straight down and crankshaft dot points straight up

the camshaft gear have DOT on it and it go straight down and the crankshaft gear have a dot on it and it go straight up
