AND what--for you--was the hardest part to learn (parking, going straight, passing, backing, turning, etc.)?

Took me at least a couple years to feel very comfortable. However, on the road you can never feel too comfortable, you always have to be on the look out. You can drive perfectly but another person might be crazy, suicidal, or in road rage.. so you have to be prepared to do what it takes to keep yourself safe.

The hardest part for me to learn was simply driving at the speed limit. I wanted to drive fast, fast... and I failed my first driving test for going too fast and not being safe enough. Safety is the most important part, remember the speed limit is a maximum although few people on the road treat it as such.

A lot depends on the conditions under which you have to drive. If you live in a country like the one I live in (North Cyprus) it will take you between six and twelve months - depending on whether you have nerves of steel. Parking here is not a problem because very few people even attempt to park properly!

it took me about 2 weeks of constant driving to get the hang of it, and the hardest thing about driving is probably parallel parking.
