Alan Carrs easy way to stop smoking. It's an excellent book and because you don't have to stop smoking until the end there's no reason not to read it.

Hearing the decision to quit from you, yourself is very rewarding and could warrant a higher rate of success if you would not fall into temptation to smoke again. However, quitting does not happen overtime. It takes time-days, weeks, or perhaps even months. First of all I would suggest that you get rid of any cigarettes that is still in your possession and stay away from it. Also it is advisable to chew on something like a gum for instance to keep your mouth busy especially when you have these cravings for nicotine. Moreover, involve your family in your decision to stop smoking for they are the ones who can help you manage your problem and keep track of you whenever temptations knocks at your door. Try to keep yourself busy like focus more on your hobbies and things that you enjoy aside from smoking. By the way, have you tried nicotine patches? If no, you might wanna check on that. I hear it works. If the day would pass without you touching that cigar then you should always congratulate yourself. Good luck and hoping the best for you...

Me too, but finally did. I used the commit lozenge. Worked great, I haven't smoked in 9 months. They are a little pricey, but over the long run they cost a lot less than cigarettes....and when you think about cancer or dying the cost for the lozenge or patch or what ever is priceless. Best of luck!

Yes. Do as I did after several other unsuccessful attempts. I said "When I've finished this packet, I'm not buying any more" - and I didn't, and it was as simple as that. I had no withdrawal symptoms, no ill feelings - nothing -- and that was about six years ago, and I've never even THOUGHT about having a smoke since then.
(Out of interest, I nearly said F A G then, but the bloody stupid yankee yahoo spellcheck won't allow an Englishman to use such a horrible, disgusting and offenS ive word like that, and you should see what happens with "offens ive" if you type it properly too!)

This has to be one of the hardest things a person can do! I smoked for 18yrs. I decided to stop in Jan & done well for 3-4 months. Then I was back on them gradually one by one, day by day. I decided to quit again 2 months ago although I still had the odd one when out drinking! To be honest, I don't think everyone can stop things right away. Maybe try wean yourself off them. Try cutting down day by day. This is usually easier!! Good Luck. I'm doing without it 2 wks so far!!!

Contact you doctors and ask them about your local 'quit smoking program' run by the NHS. You will need attend weekly and talk about the last weeks experiences, also you will need to do a little test to to prove you have not been smoking. You will also get aids to help you stop, ie patches, gum, etc etc all on prescription - what ever suits you. I know it does sound like joining 'AA' but really it does work. Your all there together trying to quit and having others around you going through the same thing does help. Give it a go, it will cost you nothing and you will gain everything.

when you go top buy cigarettes put the money you would have spent on them in a box keep doing this after a few weeks you see how much you have saved it encourages you to carry on wash all your clothes and avoid people who smoke keep busy if you have a bad time eat a carrot or an apple try nobbling fruit things to stop the craving not sweets or cakes or you will expand good luck
